MAJOR SECURITY SHORTFALLS ON OUR RAIL NETWORK PUTTING COMMUTER SAFETY AT RISK

The safety of rail commuters is being put at risk with the O’Farrell Government cutting the numbers of transit officers providing security on our trains and station platforms.

A leaked document has tonight revealed that a new police transport command will not be at full strength until January 2015 – yet the O’Farrell Government plans to remove transit officers who previously provided security on our trains and station platforms by August this year.

Voting now open for the 4th annual GLORIAs

NSW Labor Upper House member Penny Sharpe today opened voting for the fourth annual GLORIAs.

"Online voting has opened for the finalists in the six categories for this year's GLORIAs,” Ms Sharpe said.

“This year we had over 80 nominations from around the world.”

Last year's Golden GLORIA winner Miranda Devine has again been nominated for her piece attacking the Proud Schools program that just missed out on last year's awards.

"Ms Devine will be up against fellow Australian columnists Piers Ackerman and Andrew Bolt in the media category, as well as the UK Daily Mail’s Richard Littlejohn for his column about a trans teacher titled ‘He's not only in the wrong body... he's in the wrong job’.

"In the politics category, Katter's Australia Party candidates have had a good showing as well as NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay who got a nod for ripping up the rainbow crossing at Taylor Square in the middle of the night.
