OPPOSITION SUPPORTS MUM’S CAMPAIGN FOR BETTER SECURITY ON TRAINS AND STATIONS

Western Sydney mum Patricia Hooker has launched a Facebook campaign calling for increased security on Sydney trains, after her two sons were violently assaulted on the CityRail network.

The NSW Labor Opposition is supporting the campaign and has called on the O'Farrell Government to stop cutting and start investing in more security for Sydney's trains.

Shadow Minister for Transport, Penny Sharpe said the O'Farrell Government's own figures show there are 250 fewer people patrolling CityRail trains and stations today than there were when Barry O'Farrell came to office.

“I congratulate Patricia Hooker for her campaign to bring back security on our trains," said Ms Sharpe.

TRANSPORT MINISTER MUST EXPLAIN SEVEN MAJOR TRAIN DELAYS IN SIX WEEKS

WHAT HAPPENED TO "FIXING THE TRAINS"??

The NSW Opposition has today called on Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian to apologise to commuters following a horrifying morning on the CityRail network.

Tens of thousands of train commuters struggled to get to work this morning after an incident at Epping saw trains suspended on the Northern Line – causing further flow on delays on the Central Coast, Newcastle, North Shore and Western Lines.

Opposition Leader John Robertson said the Minister needs to step up, take responsibility for the crisis and explain why these delays keep happening.

"The Transport Minister says she's 'fixing the trains' but in six weeks we've had seven major incidents," said Mr Robertson.

TRANSPORT FOR ALL FORUM TO BE HELD AT NSW PARLIAMENT

Shadow Minister for Transport, Penny Sharpe today announced that NSW Labor will host a forum on how to make the public transport system accessible to all people.

Ms Sharpe said that the forum on March 15 would have two aims:
1.    To review and provide feedback to the NSW Government's Disability Action Plan; and
2.    To allow public transport users – and in particular people with disabilities and other mobility issues – to talk about their experiences with public transport in Sydney and NSW more broadly.

"The Disability Action Plan was quietly released late last year and has had little or no public attention given to it," Ms Sharpe said.

"I want to give commuters with a disability or mobility issues a chance to provide feedback on the plan.

Graffiti vandals are leaving their mark more often on Sydney's trains and railway stations.
