“The adoption of a New South Wales bill of rights would serve to take lawmaking power from our democratically elected parliament and hand that power over to unelected judges”

— The Hon. David Clarke MLC.

Live Life

A couple of years ago, I had the honour of closing NSW Seniors Week. NSW Seniors Week recognises the achievements of seniors in NSW and celebrates the contribution that older people make to NSW.

Seniors week in 2009 will be held from 15 to 22 March and DADHC has just launched the 2009 Seniors Week Grants program and the 2009 NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards are now calling for nominations.

Seniors Week Grants are provided to support the development and organisation of local NSW Seniors Week projects. In 2008 the NSW Government awarded $175,000 in grants to support local events during NSW Seniors Week that included a musical sing-along and trip to the Hunter Valley, tai chi classes, health and well being forums, art classes and community sports days. Grants for $500 and $1000 are available. You can find out and download an application from the DADHC website. Applications close on 19 September.

The NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards recognise seniors for their contribution to the development of our community and provide an opportunity to formally thank older people for the contributions that they make to the quality of life in our state. Download an application form here. Nominations close on 26 September.
