Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport John Watkins today provided the parliament with further information about the T-Card project.
The project developer, Integrated Ticketing Solutions Limited (ITSL), was served with notices of intention to terminate the contract on the 5th of November by the Public Transport Ticketing Corporation on behalf of the Government.
The notices gave ITSL 20 business days to meet the contract milestones they have missed or work diligently to pursue a remedy and come up with a satisfactory remedial program.
Mr Watkins said the Government is now considering its options provided under the contract.
"ITSL delivered a plan to progress the project to the PTTC on the 30th of November, and the PTTC is now assessing that plan.
"The project is complex, and the Government will take the time it needs to consider its position.
"We'll take the appropriate technical, commercial and legal advice before any decision is made, but I wouldn't expect any decision before Christmas.
"The contract remains on foot and while this is the case, we expect the contractor to continue to honour its obligation within the terms of the contract" he said.
The Government is considering its options following ITSL's failure to meet a number of key project milestones.
On 24 September this year, the contractor was issued with notices requiring it to remedy delays within 20 business days. By 22 October it had failed to do so and has not done so since.
The PTTC then issued notices of intention to terminate as provided for under the contract.
"The Government will continue to do everything it can to protect the taxpayers and commuters of NSW in relation to the T-Card project'" Mr Watkins said.
