One Web Day - Sydney

Penny Sharpe MLC is hosting an event for One Web Day in Sydney.

One Web Day was founded by Susan Crawford, current technology policy advisor to President Obama, to broaden awareness of web issues and increase the culture of participation and digital inclusion.

This special Sydney event will raise awareness of OneWebDay in Australia and we'll hear about some local projects and issues for digital inclusion in Sydney.

Speakers will include:  

Vicky Pinpin-Feinstein - Welcome and introduction to One Web Day

Penny Sharpe MLC - NSW Public Sphere and what digital inclusion means for NSW

Julia Burns of Glebebytes and the Wireless House Project will present examples of community-based projects that empower locals in their usage of the Internet to share local oral-history content on-line.

Glenn Wallace from the City Sydney will talk about Wireless House and the application of Web 2.0 to the future of local community-based projects.

Sherre Delys will be speaking about Pool, the ABC's groundbreaking experiment in user generated content and public media. Pool brings together ABC professionals and audiences in an open-ended process of participation, co-creation and collaboration. She will describe what it is and how it came about. She will give some fascinating examples of Pool fostering public collaboration and participation. She will also detail Pool's innovative work within the ABC, namely building a platform on open source software, and releasing a small sample of ABC archives to the public under an open licence for use and re-use.
