Big Steps is the campaign led by United Voice members to win professional wages for early childhood educators.
What is the problem?
Our early childhood educators deserve to be paid wages that reflect their level of training and the critical role they play in our children’s cognitive, emotional and social development. A Certificate III qualified educator is on an Award minimum of $18.58 per hour. It’s no coincidence that this workforce is mostly women, who are forced to take on additional jobs or join the 180 educators leaving the sector every week. United Voice and other sector interests are saying enough is enough. Parents can’t afford higher fees and childcare providers can’t afford to pay higher wages due to their costs.
The solution?
Professional wages funded by the Federal Government under a reformed early childhood education funding package. Let’s pay educators professional wages so they can afford to stay in jobs they love. Let’s keep them in their jobs so they can continue to provide stable and consistent education to our young children.
